Davis-Poythress Family Cemetery

Located east and just to the south side of 697 Main St., Brodnax. The sole contemporary marker is approx. 200 ft east of the road. By 2000, eight graves were recognizable, in two rows of four each. Most graves were marked with fieldstones, one at the head and another at the foot. Only gravestones for James D. and Lucy C.M. Poythress remained but were broken and the inscription on James' unreadable. |

According to the family erecting the stone in 2000, this cemetery is located on land once owned and farmed by Henry P. Davis, who married Susan M. Poythress. In addition to their four infants, all those buried here are related to Henry and Susan: Henry's mother Elvira Wright and brother William Davis, and Susan's parents, James David Poythress and Lucy Cannon Moseley, and her brothers Benjamin and Fletcher Poythress. Henry and Susan Davis are buried at Canaan Cemetery. |

Elvira Wright was daughter of William M. Wright, and she married Edward P. Davis. William Davis married Mary Ella Crowder Parish. James
David Poythress was son of Pvt. Thomas M. Poythress, CSA, and Lucy J. Thomas. Lucy Cannon Moseley was daughter of Benjamin Moseley and Susan P. Singleton. Benjamin James Poythress married Ada B. Conner.
